Fines: Fines are charged for late reserve materials and recalled items.
- $1.00/day for recalled items
- $1.20/hour for reserve items
Replacement costs are charged for lost or damaged materials. A processing fee will also be added to the total cost of replacing a book. Processing fees are for the cataloging and preparing the new item for library use. Patrons may pay fines at any library. Replacement costs must be paid at the library where the material was checked out.
Renewing Books
Books may be renewed up to four times. Because the loan period for faculty and library staff is much longer, only three renewals are allowed per item. Items may be renewed in person at any library on Campus, and the Walker Management Library allows telephone and online renewals (excluding reserves):
- To renew in person, visit the Service Desk in the Walker Management Library (or in any of the libraries).
- To renew by phone, call 615-322-2970 and provide your user ID.
- To renew your materials online, login to your account. You may renew materials checked out from any Vanderbilt library, not just the Walker Management Library. There is a limit to the number of times an online renewal will be allowed.
Returning Books
Books may be returned to any Service Desk in any of the Vanderbilt libraries. Walker Management Library also maintains a return book slot in the lobby of the Owen school. It is located to the left of the main entrance of the library.
Recalling Items
Recalls or holds for books that are checked out may be placed at the Service Desk. Recalls are also available from the desired item's record in ACORN, the online Library Catalog. Simply click on the RECALL button and follow the prompts. Once a book is recalled, it becomes due 14 days after the day it is recalled. When the recalled item is returned, you will be notified is it available for pickup. It will be held at the Service Desk for 10 days. If you do not pick up the book within these 10 days, it will be returned to the library stacks.
Searching For a Missing Book
If the item you desire is listed in the catalog as available, but you have not been able to find it on the shelf, please see a staff member at the Service Desk. A missing item will be placed on a search list and a staff member will search for the material. Patrons will be notified when missing items are available for check out.
Patron Notification of Availability of Items
Notification of overdue books, recalled books, and availability of requested material is sent via email (when available) or first-class mail. Patron records are updated annually. Or in the event, your email or home address and phone number changes, stop by any library so we can update your patron record for you.
